We Out!

We Out! is an exhibition including pop culture objects depicting or representing Harriet Tubman. We were able to research
and purchase all of these objects online.

It’s interesting to have Harriet Tubman, a historical figure, in popular culture because it shows how people are striving to get education into the media. It is important to this school in particular because we are named after her. We have a responsibility to represent her in a respectful way. She is one of the bravest women and a major person of accomplishment in the history of the United States.

This work was selected by the Harriet Tubman Center for Expanded Curatorial Practice and exhibited in the hallway of Harriet Tubman Middle School. Students in this project are learning about curation in a wide variety of forms. The Center is a project by KSMoCA and is organized by Portland State University Professors Lisa Jarrett and Harrell Fletcher.
