Please join us for a lecture by Guadalupe Rosales the 2020-2021 KSMoCA Artist Lecture Series, which is open to members of the public and students at Dr. MLK Jr School and their families. The lecture will take place via our YouTube livestream.
Guadalupe Rosales (b. 1980, CA) is a visual artist from East Los Angeles. She is also the founder and operator of Veteranas & Rucas and Map Pointz, two digital archives accessible through Instagram. Aside from operating these two digital archives on Instagram, Rosales runs and preserves physical archives containing vernacular photographs, flyers, magazines and other types of ephemera connected to Latinx youth culture in Southern California in the late-twentieth century and early-twenty first.
Guided by an instinct to create counter-narratives, Rosales tells the stories of communities often underrepresented in public record and official memory. By preserving artifacts and memorabilia, Rosales’ reframes marginalized histories, offering platforms of self-representation.
Presentations will be recorded and made available on our website as an ongoing resource for students, teachers, and members of the public.
