Please join us for the 2019-2020 KSMoCA Visiting Artist Lecture Series, which is open to members of the public and students at Dr. MLK Jr School. The lecture will take place in the school library with artist Roland Dahwen.
Roland Dahwen is a filmmaker who makes videos for people to watch on phones, on TVs, in galleries, and in movie theaters. He often makes videos with other people: poets, dancers, and musicians. Roland didn’t always know he would be an artist – and still isn’t sure – but it’s the best job he’s found so far. Before he made videos, he studied literature and wanted to be a writer. Before that, he worked as a dishwasher in a restaurant and wanted to be a painter. Before that, he was a kid and wanted to be a basketball player. When he was twenty years old, he made his first video. It was a documentary about a whistling language, that he still can’t believe actually exists.
